How can I extend the life of my clothes?

Responsible manufacturing to last over time

Through our eco-responsible commitments, which push us every year to do better than the previous year, we always try to limit our environmental impact at all stages of the creation of the garment. This is particularly true in the choice of materials, favouring natural and sustainable materials to offer you quality pieces that last over time, but also in the choice of suppliers. We entrust the manufacture of our clothes to professional partners who respect our values and commitments. Afterwards, adopting a healthy maintenance method allows us to maintain its quality and extend its life span, while preserving the environment as much as possible.

To take good care of your clothes, you need to know the material in order to provide the right care. For several years, La Fiancée has been offering different materials: organic cotton, EcoVero viscose, recycled polyester... These materials, which are more eco-responsible, are also much more durable.

Cotton and organic cotton

Cotton is a natural plant material made of fine, flexible fibres.

Organic cotton belongs to the organic farming method. Cotton is grown without pesticides, GMOs or chemicals.

Soft, strong, absorbent and pleasant to the touch, cotton is the most widely used material in textile production.

La Fiancée's little tip

Cotton is easy to maintain. It is hydrophilic, which makes it slow to dry.

Opt for a gentle wash, at 20 or 30°C in a short cycle. Dry outdoors, away from the sun, or inside in a well-ventilated room. Fold your clothes gently to avoid creasing and wear.

EcoVero Viscose

Viscose is a man-made fibre made from natural wood fibres and transformed by a chemical process. Viscose is fluid, breathable, absorbent and lightweight.

EcoVero viscose has a particularly environmentally friendly production process. EcoVero viscose uses wood for the fibres from sustainable forests. The manufacturing process follows strict European Eco Label standards. The result is an ecological, comfortable, fluid and soft EcoVero viscose, often compared to silk.

La Fiancée's little tip

Viscose is a material that retains its fluidity and softness even after several washes.

Opt for hand washing your viscose pieces at a maximum temperature of 20°C.

You can also use the washing machine, putting your garment inside out in a laundry net to prevent the material from being damaged by rubbing against the drum.

Recycled polyester

Recycled polyester (PET) is a material made from the recycling of existing products such as textile offcuts, plastic bottles or used clothing. These elements are shredded into granules, which are melted to form a yarn that is then processed to create the fabric. Recycled polyester is very strong and flexible.

La Fiancée's little tip

Recycled polyester is easy to care for, dries quickly and is very easy to iron.

Turn your clothes inside out before washing. Opt for washing at a temperature of 30°C. Do not dry clean your garments. Machine drying is not recommended.

Every La Fiancée garment has a label with care symbols. Before putting your garment in the wash, look at the label carefully. To better understand these indications, focus on these symbols:

Washing

Hand wash

Air your clothes to freshen them up after each wear.

If your garment is stained, remove the stain by hand in a basin of water at a maximum temperature of 40°C. This will reduce the environmental impact of your garment on the planet!

Wash at 30° - normal programme and wash at 30° - moderate programme

Wash your clothes with similar colours.

Use the short programmes for slightly soiled clothes.

Dry your clothes naturally in the open air to save energy!

The moderate programme, represented by a bar under the sink, prescribes a more gentle mechanical treatment.

No wash

Used especially for "big pieces", such as jackets and coats, we recommend that you have this item professionally cleaned. Professional cleaning is essential to preserve the quality of your textile and prolong its life.

Bleaching

Chlorination

Here you can wash your garment using any type of bleach, chlorine (bleach) or oxygen.

Recommendations: bleach in cold water. Chlorine (bleach) is not suitable for removing stubborn dirt of natural origin, so soak clothes that have been washed and rinsed in cold water for 15 to 30 minutes. Then rinse and wash as prescribed on the label. Oxygen removes coloured stains from 30°C. The stain disintegrates thanks to the oxygen, which also has a disinfectant effect by killing bacteria.

Household tumble dryer

Tumble drying is not allowed. The fabric cannot withstand the dryer, which will damage it.

The tumble dryer will overheat your garment and eventually damage it.

Ironing

Ironing your textile product only when you think it is necessary will save energy. Tip: use a damp cloth over the garment to avoid damaging your garment.

Ironing at a low temperature

Use your iron at a maximum temperature of 110°C, without steam.

Medium heat ironing

Here the maximum temperature to use is 150°C. Use steam if necessary.

Recommendations: on materials such as velvet and screen-printed items, iron them inside out or with a damp cloth. For silk, iron your piece on the reverse side and when it is still wet with a minimum iron temperature. Once ironed, hang your silk on a hanger.

Professional cleaning

This is a normal dry cleaning process. This symbol indicates that the item should be professionally cleaned.

To save time and money, here are some tips from clevercare.info on how to care for your clothes and keep them looking good for longer:

1) Wash your clothes only when necessary

2) Reduce the temperature of your clothes when possible

3) Dry your clothes naturally

4) Iron only when necessary

5) Professional cleaning when recommended
